Riding the 29X2.6's front and rear on a SC Hightower LT with Reserve 30 rims. I love this tire in Moab and similar loose, rocky, technical conditions. Able to handle fast lines and square edge impacts. Bontrager nailed the casing's strength to weight ratio. I thought this was going to be my tire this season until I got it upto speed on a fast, twisty, smooth, hard packed trail near my house. I have ridden it hundreds of times on various tires, various bikes and in all conditions. This tire was unstable, almost smearing thru turns at both 25 and 30 psi, where the EXO Minion's in the 2.4 and 2.5 widths hold a consistent and confident line at any reasonable psi. The casing is superior to the EXO too. Are the knobs too small? Is the profile not square enough? Is the 2.6 too big for the 30mm rims? Great for the Desert, love the casing. Not so good for fast hard pack cornering.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

650b 2.6 tire on my Transition Patrol. nice sturdy casing, great traction, rolls very well. not quite enough knobs for a front tire in my opinion at least on fast loose terrain, but a fantastic rear tire. great volume, it's a true 2.6, wearing nicely. i'll replace this one with the same.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Been using the 2.4 SE4 as a rear tire. I've also used the lighter casing XR4 up front. Round, voluminous- true 2.4. I dislike second guessing tires and this is a very predictable tire through all lean angles and you just forget it's there. As a rear it climbs and brakes well with relatively low rolling resistance. Also, one of my favorite features of the SE casing is it's a little more supportive and durable than EXO casing at around the same weights. I can use 1-2psi less and get better sidewall support and they never weep and so far no flats or punctures to report.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

My 29er wore Maxxis Rekons on both ends all summer and liked them a lot. They were light, fast and easy to dial in the tire pressure to get a good combination of cush, traction and roll. All was well until the fall came and all of a sudden I might as well have been on slicks. Good on dry trails, not so good as soon as the trails were wet. Even worse in leaf cover. Off to the internet for some research and reluctantly I let myself become interested in the Bontrager tires. Nothing at all against Trek or Bontrager, but my normal experience with OEM tires was they usually looked good, but were not anyone's first choice. Well...guess what? These are awesome!! Heavier than the Rekons? Yup, but WORTH IT!!! On i30 rims the sidewalls of the 29x2.4 are well supported which means I can confidently run lower pressures than with the soft walled Maxxis. Traction on wet rocks is excellent. Looking for something more aggressive than a Rekon but not a boat anchor for trail riding? This is it. Buy now, you can thank me later. Oh, and opt for the XR4 for the front!!

Q

Looking at this tire for a 2015 Lush SL on the stock Duster Elite rims (I cant find any specs on this rim, especially width) for a trip to the Alps. Would these work like designed on these rims (and bike)?

Asked by Bob
Verified Reply - Nick @ TrekUnfortunately the SE 4 Team Issue tire will not be compatible with the 2015 Lush. The largest size that bike can take is 27.5 x 2.35". We'd suggest taking a look at the XR 4 Comp Tire, which is available in that size. www.trekbikes.com/p/11645
Q

Currently running these on a I 30 rim would a I 40 rim be better?
